Forget the grand prix and the speedway! The future of car racing is sustainable energy!

Students from Western Australian secondary schools and colleges will pit their skills against each other,  this Thursday and Friday, to win the right to represent WA in the Australian-International Model Solar Car Challenge.

The three hottest cars in Western Australia will win a trip across the border to represent their State.

Final results - 31 October 2008

  • Fastest qualifier - Winthrop Baptist College
  • Best team effort - Albany Senior High School
  • Best poster - Girrawheen Senior High School team 1
  • Best new school - John Calvin Christian College
  • First - Morley Senior High School team 2
  • Second - Girrawheen Senior High School team 1
  • Third - Belridge Senior High School team 1
  • Fourth - Aquinas College team 1

Update - 30 October 2008

The first day of racing got underway at Forrest Chase today for Western Power's 17th annual Solar Model Car Challenge.  Of the 20 participating schools Winthrop, Aquinas College and Belridge go into the finals tomorrow as hot favourites.

Results of Thurday's racing

  • The fastest qualifier - Winthrop Baptist College with a time of 15.96 seconds
  • Second fastest - Aquinas College 3 with a time of 16.09
  • Third fastest - Belridge SHS 3 with a time of 16.30

              Watch all the spills and action and see who will head to Tasmania for the National/International solar model car race.
