Power demand in the Rossmoyne area continues to climb due to population growth and increased use of electrical appliances such as airc onditioners.
By 2015, the power requirements of Perth’s southern suburbs will have increased substantially and a new zone substation will be required to improve the capacity of the existing Riverton and Canning Vale substations to meet local power needs.
Western Power has purchased land at 5 Yampi Way in Willetton to establish a new zone substation to service Rossmoyne and the surrounding area.
Zone substations convert high voltage power to lower voltage electricity for transportation by distribution lines to homes and businesses.
The Yampi Way site was chosen after extensive investigation. Situated about 600m from the Southern Terminal-East Perth 132 kV line, the site is well positioned to easily connect to the transmission network. The site was also chosen because of its location in an industrial/commercial area, which minimises the visual impact on surrounding residential properties.
Construction of the new Rossmoyne substation is expected to start during November 2014 and should be completed by November 2015. The timing may be brought forward should power consumption increase beyond forecast levels.
Signs indicating Western Power’s ownership of the land and intended future use of the site will be erected in the near future.
