Consultation process

Over the last twelve months, Western Power and our independent consultants GHD have been undertaking background research and detailed community and stakeholder consultation to ensure that the most suitable corridor for this important piece of infrastructure is identified.

By seeking important local knowledge via a series of community information sessions, workshops, on-the-ground research and the formation of two advisory bodies, Western Power and GHD were able to obtain important local information which then fed into the identification of a series of potential corridors for the project.

By collating this stakeholder input and detailed analysis, three main corridors identified were the 'red' corridor (central option), the 'yellow' (western most option) corridor, and 'blue' corridor (eastern most option). There were also several derivatives and combinations of each of these options which all pass through areas with the least numbers of constraints.

The corridors were then refined based on comment from the community, key stakeholders and the Corridor Selection Panel and Stakeholder Advisory Group.

The refined corridors were then assessed using a multi-criteria analysis which considered social, environmental, economic and technical factors.

The assessment determined that a corridor which was a combination of the red and yellow corridors as having the least overall impact.
