Western Power will continue work on Guildford terminal substation site when construction of the Hazelmere zone substation begins in October 2008.
The new zone substation will be constructed adjacent to the existing Guildford terminal substation and connect into the Guildford terminal substation.
The new substation to be constructed on the corner of Central Avenue and Bushmead Road in Hazelmere will improve the reliability of the power supply to residents and businesses in the Hazelmere, Guildford, Helena Valley and Midland areas.
The substation is required to "step down" electricity from the Guildford terminal substation so the power can be distributed to businesses and residents in the area.
Increases in the demand for electricity within the Midland area as well as proposed land developments in the Hazelmere area have resulted in the requirement for new electrical infrastructure to meet future power demands.
The new substation will improve the reliability of the power supply to customers in the Hazelmere, Guildford, Helena Valley and Midland by increasing the capacity and flexibility of the network in the area.
Construction will initially include the installation of one transformer. A second transformer will be installed in 2019 to meet the forecast increase in power demand in the Midland area.
When construction is complete, Western Power will landscape the area on the Bushmead Road, Central Avenue and east sides of the substation with native plants endemic to the area.
