Planting guide

Tall trees and powerlines don’t mix, but this doesn’t mean you have to go without trees or shrubs if you live near powerlines. There are many smaller trees and shrubs that look attractive and won’t cause power interruptions.

By selecting appropriate plants, you can reduce or even remove the need for pruning near powerlines, saving time and money.

A general rule is select species that do not grow higher than five metres in urban areas and no greater than three metres in bushfire risk areas and near transmission lines.

Western Power has compiled a selection of powerline friendly trees and shrubs, which will add colour to your garden and attract many native birds.

Choose from Australian Natives, Western Australian Natives and Exotic Plants.

Your local nursery can help you choose the perfect plant for your environment.
